From Industry to Housing: Adaptive Reuse in Athens -GR
Architect: Panos Dragonas & Sotiris Theodosopoulos
Associates: Stella Theodosopoulou, Vivian Theodosopoulou, Margarita Togia

Set in a former industrial zone of Athens, this project reimagines an abandoned factory complex as a new model for urban living. The existing urban fabric includes four abandoned buildings that once operated as textile mills, as well as a new apartment block.

The architectural proposal is based on the principles of adaptive reuse, treating the old shells not as remnants to be preserved, but as active carriers of new programs and future life. The load-bearing structure of the former factories is retained in its entirety and reactivated as an infrastructural framework for a broader transformation—one that respects the industrial memory without reproducing it literally.
